DDC’s Innovative New Macerator Uses Less Energy and Water

Hospitals and care homes around the world can now cut their sluice room operating costs and CO2 emissions by upgrading to DDC’s advanced next-generation Pulpmatic® Flex medical pulp macerators.

New Pulpmatic® Flex redefines maceration technology with intelligent performance and precision engineering. It is designed for healthcare environments where hygiene, speed and reliability are critical. Intelligent monitoring means it uses up to 63% less water (from 10 litres/cycle) and up to 73% less energy (from 0.007 kWh per cycle) compared with competitor models. This enables healthcare facilities to make significant cost savings.

Pulpmatic® Flex’s exclusive patented ClearSense® intelligent monitoring system optimises maceration performance. Using advanced sensor technology, ClearSense® detects precisely when the pulp has been fully macerated and the water leaving the system is clear – ensuring that only the optimal amount of electricity and water is required for the load in the machine.

The result is a system that works smarter, delivering measurable savings and reliability across every cycle.

Pulpmatic® Flex can comfortably macerate up to six items of pulp per cycle. The machine’s cutting-edge features and user-friendly design ensure efficient, hygienic, contactless operation – protecting staff from the risk of healthcare acquired infections.

Four maceration settings accommodate various waste types and volumes for optimal efficiency.  Options include self-start and auto. Improved drum design saves clinicians’ time. Cycles start at just 55 seconds.

The machine’s new blade technology macerates pulp into fine particles quickly and efficiently. This reduces the risk of blockages. Auto-flush technology keeps pipework lubricated between cycles. This reduces the possibility of pulp build-up in the pipework, helping to maintain system uptime.

Antimicrobial protection in the lid and front panel prevents the growth of harmful bacteria. Independent tests showed a 99.99% reduction in bacterial growth. This technology is tested to the ISO 22196 and JIS Z 2801:2000 standards, demonstrating fast inhibition or elimination of bacteria. The protection will remain active for the expected service life of the machine.

Pulpmatic® Flex is simple to operate. A five-inch colour display provides animated instructions and cycle status information.  Audio annunciation is available in any language, reducing the risk of operator error and cutting training costs.

The integrated chemical dosing system with low use indicator helps to control odours and minimises the risk of cross-contamination.
The integrated overflow design makes installation neater, faster and more efficient, ensuring minimal disruption and a cleaner, more professional finish.

DDC Group Sales Director James Smith said: “Pulpmatic® Flex helps hospitals and care homes to cut water and electricity costs while improving infection prevention.

“The dramatic reduction in utility usage lowers operational costs by thousands of pounds each year. It also helps healthcare providers to achieve their Net Zero objectives without compromising on safety or performance.

“You can switch to Pulpmatic® Flex with no upfront capital investment, as all acquisition and servicing costs are spread across affordable, predictable monthly payments,” he added.
