Materials Planner
Overview
This role is responsible for executing the day-to-day supply chain plan, ensuring material availability to support production and service operations. The Supply Chain Materials Planner will own MRP outputs, manage supplier schedules, expedite orders, and maintain accurate system data.
This is a high-tempo, detail-critical role focused on delivery, availability, and system integrity.
Key Job Duties and Responsibilities:
MRP & Planning Execution- Run and manage MRP to generate purchase requirements.
- Convert demand signals into accurate and timely purchase orders.
- Maintain planning parameters to ensure system reliability.
Supplier Scheduling & Expediting

Actively manage supplier order books to meet required delivery dates.

Expedite late or critical orders to protect production and service.

Communicate risks early and drive resolution.
Inventory & Stock Control
- Maintain optimal stock levels across production parts, spares, and consumables.
- Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies and system anomalies.
- Support stock accuracy and cycle count processes.
Operational Purchasing
- Raise and manage purchase orders in line with demand.
- Track and maintain purchase order status.
- Support call-off orders against supplier agreements.
Internal Coordination
- Work closely with Warehouse, Production, and Service teams to prioritise demand.
- Provide clear visibility of shortages and recovery plans.
- Escalate issues to Purchasing Manager / Operations Manager where required.
Supplier Interaction
- Liaise with suppliers on delivery schedules, shortages, and returns.
- Support onboarding of new suppliers and parts.
System & Data Integrity
- Maintain accurate MRP/ERP data (lead times, MOQs, pricing).
- Ensure system dates and planning data are correct.
- Generate reports on shortages, overdue orders, and supplier performance.
Experience & Capability
- Experience in a purchasing, planning, or supply chain role within manufacturing or engineering.
- Strong working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems (SAP Business One advantageous).
- Experience managing stock, expediting, and supplier coordination.
- High attention to detail with strong organisational capability.
- Confident operating in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Qualifications
- CIPS Level 3+ (or working towards)
- GCSEs or equivalent (including Maths & English)
